Language Arts

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING

  • We are learning to conduct research by exploring a topic, asking questions, and developing a deeper understanding through drawing conclusions and synthesizing ideas.

 

HOME PRACTICES

  • Read 30 minutes.
  • Choose an interesting topic related to history (American Revolution) or science (weather, oceans, solar system) and discuss questions that begin with “why,” “what if,” and “how.”

Math

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING

  • We are learning to solve practical problems involving multiplication (2 digits x 2 digits) and division (1 digit divisor and 3 digit dividend) with whole numbers.

  • Complete 30 minutes of ST Math

Advanced Math

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING

  • We are learning to solve practical problems involving length, mass, and liquid volume using metric units. 
  • We are exploring plane figures and their attributes.

  • Practice multiplication facts
  • Estimate and measure the length of household items.

Science & Social Studies

  • We are learning to analyze the choices authors make (structure, language, format) to construct power, position, and perspectives.

  • Read 30 minutes. 
  • Use advertisements and commercials to discuss what the author believes and how that message influences the viewer or reader.

  • We are learning to read, identify and use homophones.

  • Reading: Unit 2, Characters: We are learning to notice that characters are at the heart of every story, they challenge and teach readers to connect to the world around them. The characters we meet can lead us to profound discoveries both in and outside ourselves. 
  • Writing: Unit 2, Personal Essay: In this unit, students use what they have previously learned about personal narrative to begin writing in a new genre, personal essay.
